Hmmm... what about Figure/Ground? You need to apply figure ground to each of these so that they have equal visual weight of black and white.

After you have created the designs, make second negative of each (so what is black becomes white and white becomes black). They should be matted side by side touching each other on the long ends, and have about 1 inch between each of the principles.
